Description
An exceptional decorative wall mounted water fountain (Lavabo), likely holy Roman Empire, Austro-Hungarian region, featuring a spherical pewter water reservoir adorned with foliate wing handles, leaf motif spout with brass turn-key petcock, topped with the original double headed eagle finial lid perched atop the orb and a matching deep rectangular pewter catchment basin. The basin rim is stamped with three individual shield-shaped pewter touch marks/pseudo-hallmarks, including a quality mark "F" (Feinzinn/fine pewter) and makers initials "D" and "R". The pewter elements are mounted on a highly ornate, deeply carved oak backplate showcasing masterful relief woodwork including a prominent long haired man at the base with four other along the elegant scrolling borders. Measuring approx. 30" tall by 17.75" wide by 11" deep at basin. Note; retaining the original double headed eagle is significant and rare over centuries of use.
