Description

Fine pair of American late Victorian to early 20th century oval portrait frames, distinguished by their brass construction and ornate patriotic cresting. Each frame is crowned with a highly detailed integral spread-wing American eagle perched atop a classic Federal-style Union shield, featuring hand painted red stripes beneath a 13 star blue field header. The crest is elegantly integrated with a flowing ribbon scroll interwoven with delicate draped laurel branches cascading down upper rim. The frames retain their original, highly desirable bowed convex (bubble) glass, enclosing two beautifully preserved sepia-toned charcoal civilian portraits of a gentleman and lady in formal 19th century attire. Measuring approx. 21 7/8" tall by 14" wide original chain link support hangers. In good age appropriate condition with some gilt losses and water damage to bottoms of portraits, see photos.
