Description

A fine 19th century, French Sarreguemines footed majolica art pottery jardiniere. Pastel pink, cobalt blue and cream tones with lion head mask paneled body. Measuring approx 16" tall x 16" diameter. Stamped on bottom and numbered 1629, as shown see photos. Light wear present consisitent with age. The pottery at Sarreguemines was established in 1784. Then the territory was French, but it became German ninety years later. The company originally made only earthenware but by the turn of the century was producing fine stoneware and using unusual mixtures of clay for their body.
