Description
10 volumes. Illustrated with 37 engravings after drawings by Fuseli by Neagle, Cromek, Rhodes, Dodley and two by William Blake. 23×14.5 cm (9×5?") mottled calf, original gilt and blind-decorated spines, gilt-lettered spine labels, all edges marbled. Beautifully decorated spines, the plays within each volume listed in gilt on a morocco spine label. With two William Blake engraved plates after Fuseli for this book, his only illustrations of Shakespeare: Vol. VII, P. 235 (King Henry VIII) and Vol. X, p. 107 (Romeo and Juliet, with a tiny abrasion on this plate). There was a nine-volume small-paper issue with greatly inferior printing of text and plates but, as Bentley observed, "the ten-volume edition is considerably more elegant." Volume 1 having detached front and back cover and foxing on the first few pageson both sides and some minor handwritten notes. Normal age appropriate wear to rest of volumes, see photos.
