Lot 158:
Roy Ahlgren (American, 1927-2011) Tachisme Abstract Expressionist Acrylic (2)
Description
A departure from the hard-edge geometric op-art serigraphs typically associated with the artist, instead a highly tactile, gestural form of Tachisme abstract expressionism. First work titled "Extreme Form of Action", an evocative abstract composition heavily built up with layered, impasto-like brushstrokes. The lower portion features a sweeping, arched curve of brilliant blues and crisp whites suggesting a shoreline or crest wave, supporting an upper section dense with natural earth tones and punctuated by vivid, electric neon green-yellow highlights. Housed in a classic wide profile oak stained frame, 15" tall by 12" wide. Second work features a splatter-style titled "Abstract Eclipse". A energetic, centralized abstract configuration mounted against a crisp white ground. This piece balances dark, dense focal pigments in black, charcoal gray, and deep browns with spontaneous bursts or primary color-including bright canary yellow, blue and hints of red. Housed in a clean, minimalist light wood-toned frame, 17.25" tall by 15" wide. In good condition, see photos.
