Description
Mid to late 19th century rectangular document box featuring detailed, hand crafted specimen wood marquetry and parquetry. Original brass hinged lid displays a central rectangular panel framed by multiple nested borders including an intricate continuous diagonal chevron pattern The front panel is anchored by an elaborate checkerboard mosaic border framing a finely inlaid bird in flight, traditionally symbolizing a dove or swallow. Measuring approx. 11.75" wide by 6.5" tall by 7.75" deep. In good age appropriate condition with some areas of missing inlaid wood, see photos.
