Description

At first glance Bob is taking a picture with a former ballplayer, Billy Sullivan. Start making some connections and this photo tells an amazing story – and it may be the only one that exists! First off, the photo was taken by the prestigious Chicago photographer George Burke, as shown with having the red tone Geo Burke stamp on verso and hand typed description along top. The man in the photo with Bob is the father of Bob’s catcher and roommate when he first joined the Indians. As a former White Sox player, Billy Sr. most likely came to see Jr. play. Sr. became a small farmer when he retired from baseball. Bob doesn’t have a reason not to take a picture with him! To shed some light on the relationship, we found this along with Bob’s senior letter award, among other items. The Indians played five times in Comiskey after Feller started playing for them. That would date this photo to a window of no more than thirty days PRIOR to Feller struck out 17 batters as a rookie. Amazing piece of history! Light surface wear and scratches to photo, faint crease towards the bottom. This was found within Bob’s personal 1933 Who’s Who in base ball book his signed featured in lot 142 and other pre-1940’s items. Direct Provenance from the Resident Estate of Bob and Anne Feller, Gates Mills, Ohio. Many of these items have been reconsigned to us from a few year back when Premier Auction Galleries liquidated the Feller’s Estate here in Gates Mills Ohio after the unfortunate passing of Ann Feller. Do not miss your chance to own something from the Cleveland baseball legend Bob "Rapid Robert" Feller own collection!!
